Sawyer Water Filters
Product Code: sawFilter
Sawyer filters use Hollow Fiber Membranes, a technology taken from kidney dialysis. They are used extensively in developing countries and disaster relief, as well as for recreational use.
The filters (except the Squeeze) are simply gravity fed - the water flows down from a source bucket or bag, through the filter, and into a receiving container. They can be cleaned by a simple backflush and Sawyer stands by them for up to a million gallons!
One of the often overlooked criteria when filtering water is whether or not viruses will be handled. Anyone buying a filter for preparedness use should realize that in a disaster, only a small amount of sewage in a water source can lead to dangerous viruses in the water.
The PointZERO TWO Purifierô (0.02 micron absolute pores), is one of the few portable purification devices which will physically remove viruses.
Because it is much less expensive, we also carry the pointONE Filter (0.1 micron absolute pores.) It will filter bacteria, protozoa, or cysts like E.Coli, Cholera and Typhoid. To make it also effective against viruses, we recommend using an iodine or other water treatment along with the filter. I have added a bulb syringe to the pointOne filter packages so that you can backflush the filters in the field. Sawyer only includes a sink attachment for backflushing (which wouldn't help much in a crisis.)
We carry four configurations:
The Sawyer Squeeze filter: The NEW Sawyer Squeeze Filter is the lightest and most versatile filtration system on the market. It has a total field weight of 3 ounces and rolls up to take virtually no space. It still features the pointOne filter. It includes 3 pouches (0.5 L, 1 L and 2 L) that can be reused hundreds of times. You can also attach the filter onto most threaded water bottles including 2 liter bottles. Simply fill up the pouch or bottle and screw on the filter. Then squeeze to filter water into your water bottle or container of choice, or drink directly from the filter with its built in push pull cap.
The pointOne Four-way System: This includes the pointOne filter, a faucet adapter, the connectors to attach it to your own source/reservoir system, and a 1L bottle that you can put the filter in for personal portable use. Thus it can be a bottle filter, a gravity fed filter, a faucet filter, or used with a hydration pack. Very versatile. . $60
The pointOne Bag system: This includes the pointOne filter, a faucet adapter (for backflushing), and a 2L source (dirty water) bag. The system has quick connects for easy assembly and dis-assembly. This would be a great filter for on the trail or for portable group use. $70
The pointZeroTwo Bucket system: This included the point ZeroTwo filter, a backflush syringe, a faucet adapter (for backflushing) and a bucket adapter to be placed on a five gallon bucket that you supply for holding source water. This is the perfect solution for a base-camp situation. Completely filtered water on an ongoing basis. $130
