Flaking Ideas

Raw Flakes - Try eating freshly flaked oats raw withouth cooking. Add milk and maple syrup, honey, or other flavorings. It has a wonderful soft cereal texture. This is Sprouty's favorite way to eat oat flakes.

Oat Flour Substitute - If you need oat flour for a recipe, try running your oats through the flaker twice. The second time you will have to coax the flakes into the flaker, but what will come out is a VERY flat flake that crumbles easily into a near powder.

Barley Flakes - Flaking barley takes more effort, since it is a tougher grain, but it is excellent for cooking into things that need a bit of a nuttier flavor: pancakes, muffins, etc.
